This role involves performing aircraft noise predictions and community noise assessments using acoustic propagation software. Responsibilities include conducting acoustic simulations, analyzing noise sources, developing software frameworks for acoustic evaluation, and documenting acoustic impacts. The role requires a graduate student in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering with experience in computational aeroacoustics and sound propagation modeling, as well as proficiency in MATLAB and Python.

What you'd actually do

  1. Conduct acoustic simulations using tools such as Advanced Acoustic Model, Aviation Environmental Design Tool, and SoundPLAN
  2. Perform aircraft acoustic analyses to compare noise sources
  3. Develop software framework and data pipeline for acoustic evaluation of new locations
  4. Verification and presentation of predictions to guide future operations
  5. Develop documentation and presentations to document acoustic impacts for specific infrastructure locations

Skills

Required

  • Graduate student in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with computational aeroacoustics and sound propagation modeling
  • Ability to work in groups and individually
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with stakeholders across a wide range of technical disciplines
  • Knowledge of rotorcraft aerodynamics and acoustics
  • Proficiency with MATLAB and Python

Nice to have

  • Understanding of CFD and FWH methods
  • Understanding of acoustic metrics and acoustic masking
  • Experience with Git/GitHub
