Joby Aviation is seeking a pilot and project manager to join their commercial operations team, focusing on flying for their certificated 14 CFR Part 135 entity and driving the development, planning, and execution of air taxi operations in domestic and international markets. The role requires strategic thinking, stakeholder management, and tactical execution, including drafting operational manuals and coordinating cross-functional teams. Responsibilities include acting as a Part 135 line pilot, learning eVTOL systems, supporting flight demonstrations, collaborating with various Joby teams, representing the air-taxi concept, and driving objectives for launch. Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, FAA Commercial pilot certificate with specific flight hour requirements, a current medical certificate, an impeccable safety record, demonstrated project leadership, and strong communication skills.

What you'd actually do

  1. 14 CFR Part 135 line pilot operating Joby’s conventionally powered fixed-wing aircraft
  2. Learn the systems and operation of Joby’s eVTOL aircraft to support operational definitions, development of commercial requirements, and potential training as an eVTOL pilot
  3. Support all aspects of safe and successful eVTOL flight demonstrations including: aircraft certificate of airworthiness, frequency / spectrum allocation, flight test, pilot and engineer staffing plan, concept of operations, logistics, insurance matters, and other supporting requirements
  4. Collaborate with numerous Joby teams including product, business development, infrastructure, government operations, and policy teams to develop and maintain go-to-market timelines for the launch of commercial air taxi operations
  5. Represent Joby's air-taxi concept of flight operations to internal and external stakeholders through the application of aviation regulations and flight operations knowledge and experience

Required

  • FAA Commercial pilot certificate
  • 1,200 hours of flight time as a pilot
  • 500 hours of cross country flight time
  • 100 hours of night flight time
  • 75 hours of actual or simulated instrument time
  • Airplane instrument rating
  • First or second class medical certificate
  • Impeccable safety record
  • Demonstrated experience leading multiple simultaneous and interrelated projects
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Proficiency in common workplace software: Microsoft and/or Google office tools

Nice to have

  • Prior experience as a PC-12 pilot in command
  • At least 3,000 hours pilot in command flight time
  • Prior experience as a pilot at a 14 CFR Part 135 or 121 air carrier, or foreign equivalent
  • FAA certified Airline Transport Pilot – airplane multiengine
  • FAA certified flight instructor
  • 4+ years operational experience at, or in an organization working with, a major commercial air carrier or major airport
  • MBA or Advanced Engineering, Aerospace, Aviation or Safety degree
  • Expertise in project management tools and concepts
