Joby Aviation is seeking a Composite Hand Layup Scheduling Specialist to manage the production control board in their composite shop, ensuring smooth execution of build plans. The role requires critical thinking, adaptability, and a high-level understanding of composite layup processes to manage schedules, support teams, and physical assets. The specialist will develop systems for documenting part complexity and team skills, maintain the physical schedule board, and ensure materials are kitted for scheduled parts. This role supports hand layup technicians by enabling them to focus on lamination workmanship, contributing to takt time and part quality.

What you'd actually do

  1. Work with the Composite planning team to ensure scheduled work is flowing smoothly through the shop with little to no downtime.
  2. Work directly with MFG Eng. To highlight workcell constraints and escalate replacement of equipment as needed
  3. Work with Team Leads and Group Lead to ensure technicians work on parts appropriate to their skill level
  4. Develop systems to document part complexity, team member skill level, and workcell set up ability.
  5. Maintain physical board – print Job, Team Member, and Behind Cause Code magnets, move scheduled work as dictated by schedule change/work stoppage/behind condition, wipe down dry erase and keep white board generally clean, and maintain other physical media posted on board.

Skills

Required

  • HS Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Intermediate computer skills for documentation and record-keeping purposes
  • Previous planning or project management experience (1+ years)
  • Experience working in fast-paced, time sensitive environments (2+ years).
  • Demonstrated abilities following standardized work instructions, technical requirements, and executing standard processes.
  • Lifting of 50 lbs. aided or unaided throughout the day.
  • Must wear PPE when required.
  • Have no known allergies to epoxies or other composites materials.
  • Must be able to walk, stand, stoop, bend, crawl, and being able to maneuver in tight spaces for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to become forklift, crane, respirator and/or equipment certified.
  • Ensures adherence to company policies and work rules, as well as ensuring a safe work environment is maintained.
  • Must have and maintain excellent work attendance.
  • Must be able to think through problems and stay with them until they are resolved.
  • Must be a self-starter, motivated, and able to work alone or with other team members.
  • Strive to continually improve quality, 5S, and productivity within areas of responsibility, knowledge, skills and experience. Demonstration through participation of FMDS, shop cleanings, internal audits, etc.

Nice to have

  • 1+ year of manufacturing experience
  • Experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment
  • Experience in a high-volume production environment that relies on a well-defined process to achieve maximum efficiency.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing or 5S environments.
