Joby Aviation's Flight Research team seeks a Navigation Software Engineer to develop autonomous aircraft navigation systems. The role involves state estimation, inertial navigation, and sensor fusion (radar, vision) for experimental aircraft. Responsibilities include developing C++ flight software, implementing fusion algorithms, building simulation tools, and collaborating with other engineering teams.

What you'd actually do

  1. Develop high-quality navigation and state estimation software (C++) for experimental VTOL and CTOL aircraft.
  2. Design and implement multi-sensor fusion algorithms incorporating inertial, radar, and perception sensor inputs.
  3. Contribute to simulation and analysis tools (C++ / Python) used to evaluate navigation performance and algorithm robustness.
  4. Build and maintain sensor simulation capabilities to support algorithm development, regression testing, and performance evaluation.
  5. Collaborate closely with radar, perception, controls, and autonomy engineers to design well-integrated navigation and estimation architectures.
