Manufacturing Engineer - Powertrain and Electronics

Joby Aviation Joby Aviation · Robotics · San Carlos, CA · Powertrain & Electronics, Manufacturing

Joby Aviation is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support the production of Electronic Assemblies, Pilot Inceptors, Environmental Control Systems, and the Charge Port Assembly. The role involves developing manufacturing processes, assembly fixturing, tooling, and equipment, optimizing production line layouts, authoring work instructions, and driving continuous improvement using Lean Manufacturing principles. Requires a B.S. in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering with 2+ years of experience in mechanical design, fixture design, and hands-on manufacturing environments.

What you'd actually do

  1. Develop manufacturing processes, assembly fixturing, tooling, and equipment to support both prototype and production builds
  2. Design and optimize full production line layouts and workstations with a focus on safety, ergonomics, quality, and efficiency
  3. Author clear, detailed manufacturing work instructions to ensure process consistency and repeatability
  4. Lead process development using statistical methods, including process capability studies, gauge repeatability and reproducibility (GR&R), and design of experiments (DoE)
  5. Ensure products and processes adhere to quality and regulatory compliance standards
  6. Partner with Design Engineers throughout prototype builds and new product introduction (NPI)
  7. Drive continuous improvement of existing production lines — processes, fixturing, tooling, and automated equipment — by applying Lean Manufacturing principles to reduce waste and improve safety, ergonomics, and material flow
