Marketplace New Business Development Manager, Baby

This role focuses on developing new business partnerships for Target's Marketplace (Target+) to expand its product assortment. The Manager will identify and acquire new brands, vendors, and retailers, working cross-functionally to enhance the digital guest experience. Key responsibilities include executing acquisition strategies, building relationships with partners, and communicating platform value. The role requires experience in digital sales, business development, or merchandising, with a strong emphasis on strategic, analytical, and communication skills.

What you'd actually do

  1. Collaborate closely with Marketplace Guest Assortment Strategy to identify assortment gaps and target potential partners to complement the Target assortment.
  2. Execute strategies for new partner acquisition, sourcing potential partners through competitive analysis and industry insights.
  3. Build relationships with new DTC brands, vendors, and retailers to meet acquisition targets and expand Marketplace offerings.
  4. Communicate the value and operational expectations of the Target+ platform to prospective partners, aligning on terms and requirements for successful partnerships.
  5. Partner cross-functionally with teams across Merchandising, Operations, Marketing, Site Merchandising, and Retail Media to enhance the Target digital guest experience.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience in digital sales, business development, or merchandising
  • Experience negotiating complex business agreements
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills
  • Ability to analyze and respond to market data, trends, and guest insights

Nice to have

  • Experience with corporate contracting and knowledge of basic legal, operational, and financial terms
  • Experience building and managing a wide pipeline of external prospective vendors / business partners
  • Familiarity with digital marketplaces and an understanding of the DTC landscape
  • Experience in a project management or operational excellence roles
