Joby Aviation is seeking an NDT Responsible Level III to inspect advanced composite airframes and additively manufactured parts using various NDT methods. This role involves technical oversight, ensuring compliance with standards and regulations, managing personnel certification, selecting NDT methods, performing audits, and making accept/reject decisions. The position requires current Level III certification in at least two NDT methods and experience in aerospace compliance.

What you'd actually do

  1. Establish, maintain, approve, and continuously improved the NDT Written Practice and method-specific procedures, techniques, and work instructions (e.g. UT, RT, ET, PT) across all Joby Aviation manufacturing locations
  2. Ensure adherence to applicable standards (e.g. NAS410/EN4179, AS9100/ISO9001), customer specifications, and regulatory mandates (e.g. FAA/EASA, Part 21/145), as applicable
  3. Manage the qualification and certification program for Level 1 and Level 2 technicians, including the administration of both general and practical examinations
  4. Determine the most effective NDT methods for specific applications, such as:o Radiographic Testing (RT)o Ultrasonic Testing (UT)o Eddy Current Testing (ET)o Magnetic Particle (MT) & Dye Penetrant (PT)
  5. Act as the primary point of contact for external audits (FAA/EASA, etc.) and perform internal audits to maintain high-quality standards.
  6. Provide expert interpretation of complex indications and act as the final arbiter on "accept/reject" decisions for critical components.

Skills

Required

  • Current Level III certification in at least two NDT methods (e.g., UT, ET, RT, PT, MT)
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Materials, Physics, or related field; equivalent experience considered
  • 7–10+ years in NDT with at least 3+ years at Level III or program-lead capacity in production or maintenance environments
  • Demonstrated mastery of NAS 410/EN 4179 requirements, and AS9100/ISO9001 quality systems
  • Experience in aerospace/aviation compliance (e.g., FAA Production/Repair, EASA Part-145) or similarly regulated industries

Nice to have

  • Experience with composite and metallic structures, welds, castings, additively manufactured parts, and bonded assemblies
  • Proven success implementing digital NDT tools (e.g., phased array UT, FMC/TFM, DR/CT, eddy array) and data management systems

What the JD emphasized
