Joby Aviation is seeking a Quality Inspector to perform dimensional inspections on aircraft parts and assemblies using various metrology equipment. The role requires understanding GD&T, blueprints, and quality concepts, with experience in inspection tools and software. The position is focused on ensuring the quality of manufactured aircraft components.

What you'd actually do

  1. Perform dimensional inspections on parts and assemblies
  2. Perform in-process inspection during composite part build up
  3. Perform dimensional inspection on aircraft during assembly
  4. Utilize a variety of high precision metrology equipment, including bridge CMM, portable CMM, laser tracker, laser scanner, calipers, micrometers, and more.
  5. Accurately report inspection results utilizing Polyworks inspection software

Skills

Required

  • High-school diploma or GED plus one (1) year of on-the-job experience in quality inspection or a related discipline
  • Ability to easily understand and use computers and a variety of software
  • Experience in the use of inspection tools or machinery (i.e. surface plate, thread gauges, pin gauges, micrometers, calipers, height master and height gauge, Jo-Blocks, impression molds)
  • Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and the x, y, z coordinate system
  • Knowledge of basic quality terms, definitions, and concepts
  • Familiar with reading and interpreting blueprints and identifying critical, major, and minor characteristics
  • Must understand types of measurement, measurement terminology and the different types of measurement scales
  • Must know the difference between accuracy and precision and be able to select the appropriate measuring tools and techniques
  • Must be able to identify/recognize inspection errors and nonconformances and initiate corrective action
  • Understanding different testing methods
  • Understand traceability (product, material and calibration)
  • Ability to work within a team environment

Nice to have

  • General knowledge of ASME Y14.5M
  • Proficient in understanding of GD&T
  • Proficient in the use of Laser Tracker, Faro Arm and/or Bridge CMM
  • Proficient with Polyworks Inspector Software
  • Working experience in an advanced or aerospace manufacturing environment
  • Ability to program a Coordinate Measuring Machine
  • Knowledge of AS9102 First Article Inspection Requirement
  • Understanding basic statistical terms and techniques, how to plot data and how to recognize out-of-control conditions
  • Strong knowledge of mathematical operations and perform measurement conversions; be able to solve for x; add and subtract degrees, minutes, and seconds.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Inspector Certificate
  • Experienced in tooling setups
