Senior Financial Analyst – R&d

This role is for a Senior Financial Analyst supporting the R&D organization at Klaviyo. The primary focus is on financial planning, forecasting, reporting, and analysis for R&D expenses, headcount, and investments. The analyst will advise R&D leaders on financial implications of strategic decisions, model R&D investments, and analyze cloud spend efficiency. While the role is not directly building AI, it supports the R&D function which may involve AI development, and the candidate is expected to explore and use AI tools to improve their own work.

What you'd actually do

  1. In partnership with the FP&A Manager and broader FP&A team, manage annual and quarterly R&D OpEx forecasting, reporting, analytics, and the monthly close and forecasting process.
  2. Advise Engineering, Product, and GTS leaders on financial implications of strategic decisions, including long-term planning, investment tradeoffs, and resource allocation.
  3. Build and maintain flexible financial models for R&D headcount planning, capitalized software tracking, scenario planning, and ad-hoc analyses.
  4. Translate product strategy and roadmap decisions into clear financial implications and actionable insights for business partners.
  5. Analyze cloud spend efficiency and identify infrastructure cost optimization opportunities.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics.
  • 5+ years of experience in FP&A or Finance at software companies with a subscription or SaaS business model.
  • Excellent storyteller with deep strategic thinking, analytical, and financial modeling skills.
  • Attention to detail with passion for achieving a high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to translate financial concepts for non-financial audiences.
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity and influencing cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Highly proficient in Excel and PowerPoint, and/or Google Suite.
  • Experience working with financial tools (e.g., Pigment, Adaptive, Planful, NetSuite, ERP/BI integrations).
