Sr Engineer, Tax Technology

This role is for a Sr. Software Engineer on the IT Tax Technology team at T-Mobile. The primary focus is on developing and deploying software solutions for tax technology, with a technical leadership role in architecture and strategy. A key aspect of the role is to lead the adoption of AI-assisted engineering and intelligent automation practices, leveraging AI tools to accelerate development and improve code quality. The engineer will also design and implement AI-enabled services within tax workflows and contribute to the overall AI strategy for Tax Technology.

What you'd actually do

  1. Drive engineering projects by developing software solutions, conducting tests and inspections, and preparing reports related to Vertex tax engine.
  2. Implement and handle cloud-native and hybrid deployments across on-premise environments, AWS, Azure, and Oracle Cloud using Kubernetes/Conductor, Docker, and GitLab CI/CD pipelines with a strong focus on scalability and resilience.
  3. Leverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate software delivery, improve code quality, and enhance debugging, testing, and documentation practices.
  4. Design and implement AI-enabled services or integrations (e.g., intelligent validation, anomaly detection, natural language interfaces, or decision-support tools) within tax technology workflows
  5. Build orchestration layers for tax workflows to handle integration across billing systems, ERP, exemption services and tax engines.
