Strategic Sourcing Manager (engineering)

Box is seeking a Strategic Sourcing Manager for their Engineering, Product, and Security teams. This role will focus on leading sourcing strategy, supplier selection, commercial negotiations, and contract execution for technology categories including SaaS, cloud infrastructure, developer tools, cybersecurity, AI-enabled solutions, and technical services. The ideal candidate will partner with technical stakeholders, manage commercial value, speed, scalability, and risk, and develop cost models and negotiation strategies. Responsibilities include RFx processes, supplier evaluations, contract drafting, and supplier performance management. The company emphasizes an AI-first approach and leveraging AI for decision-making.

What you'd actually do

  1. Partner with Engineering, Product, and Security stakeholders to understand business priorities, technical requirements, and supplier needs, while helping manage risk and accelerate decision-making.
  2. Translate business requirements into sourcing strategies across software, cloud, developer tools, cybersecurity, AI, and technical services categories.
  3. Lead RFx processes, supplier evaluations, commercial negotiations, and contracting.
  4. Assess suppliers based on technical fit, security requirements, total cost of ownership, scalability, and business value.
  5. Collect data and perform spend analysis, analyze and report data to explain market trends, savings and improvement opportunities.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Systems, Finance, Procurement or a related field with 5-7 years of experience in strategic sourcing.
  • Experience supporting Engineering, Product, Infrastructure, IT, or Security stakeholders.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of SaaS software.
  • Cost modeling skills using Excel or other tools.
  • Strong experience negotiating SaaS, cloud, software licensing, security, and professional services agreements.
  • 4+ years of experience reviewing, drafting, and negotiating commercial contracts with suppliers
  • Able to work independently with strong teamwork, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Has strong commercial acumen and business judgment
  • Has knowledge of market rates and benchmarks among industry peers.
  • Has demonstrated influencing, negotiation, presentation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Has experience working at all levels of an organization from business owner to C-Suite.
  • Attentive to detail, an analytical and proactive thinker.
  • A highly organized multitasker who can prioritize in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to have

  • A master’s degree and/or APICS certification is a plus.
