Tier II Technician (network Engineer Level Ii) (government)

This role is for a Tier II Network Technician (Network Engineer Level II) supporting government clients with network solutions, design, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of LAN/WAN devices. Responsibilities include incident response, change requests, configuration management, and supporting network engineers. Requires strong Layer 1, 2, and 3 networking experience, knowledge of specific protocols and equipment, and a TS/SCI with polygraph clearance.

What you'd actually do

  1. The Tier II network field technician will support the installation and maintenance of the client LAN/WAN devices.
  2. Respond to and resolve incidents, demonstrate troubleshooting skills and communicate with the team.
  3. Draft and implement standard network change requests.
  4. Provide support to Tier III network engineers for incident management and projects (site surveys, TEMS, coordinate and install new equipment).
  5. Perform configuration management functions such as update topology drawings, ensure asset management records are accurate, and conduct inventory.

Skills

Required

  • 10 years of experience (combination of work history and education)
  • DoD 8140 IAT Level 2 compliance
  • TS/SCI with polygraph clearance
  • Experience with CISCO/Juniper RMA process
  • Layer 1 network experience (CAT5/6, SM/MM Fiber, Serial cables, SFP)
  • Layer 2 network experience (configure/troubleshoot switches/routers, MAC addresses, VLANs, port security, applying thin and thick configs)
  • Layer 3 network experience (subnetting, OSPF, BGP, HSRP, MPLS, LSP, GRE)
  • Configure and troubleshoot layer 2 switching (VLAN’s, Port Security, Thin Configs)
  • Perform IOS upgrades for Cisco, Juniper, Brocade and Foundry OS
  • Experience with Visio
  • Familiar with ServiceNow and Confluence
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Acceptable driving record
