Northrop Grumman is seeking an Associate Material Process / Engineer Material Process to analyze, research, design, and develop materials and their related fabrication and application processes. The role involves applying principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop specifications and processes for metallic, non-metallic, and composite materials. Responsibilities include material analyses, failure analysis, life predictions, and technical reviews of drawings and manufacturing plans. The position is on-site in Palmdale, CA or Oklahoma City, OK, and requires a Secret security clearance.

What you'd actually do

  1. Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems.
  2. Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes.
  3. Develops, analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications.
  4. The candidate will work in a team environment with other engineering organization performing detailed technical reviews of drawings, specifications and manufacturing plans.
  5. Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science or similar STEM degree
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance
  • U.S. citizenship

Nice to have

  • Overall cumulative GPA of 3.25/4.0 or higher
  • Experience with working on military or commercial aircraft, parts and assemblies
  • Experience preparing and presenting oral and written reports
  • Familiar with composite pre-pregs, honeycombs, sealants, coatings and adhesive materials
  • Familiar with fabrication, assembly, and repair processes for aircraft composite structures
  • Familiar with metallic materials and processes
  • Experience with material Obsolescence issues and qualifying materials
  • Experience with wire harness assembly, termination, installation, and related processes
