2026 Phd Applied Research Project (3 Months), Aarhus

Uber Uber · Consumer · Aarhus, Denmark · University

PhD intern role focused on applied research in reliability and efficiency for Uber's core infrastructure. Projects involve optimizing systems, building risk scoring models, classifying incident data, advancing workflow versioning, and applying Generative AI or analysis techniques to prevent regressions. The role bridges novel research with production impact, requiring ownership from ideation to implementation.

What you'd actually do

  1. Own your research end-to-end—from initial idea and experimentation to building a prototype that works within Uber’s production ecosystem.
  2. Apply Generative AI or static/dynamic analysis techniques to identify patterns in incident postmortems, preventing future regressions before they happen.
  3. Build a code risk scoring model that predicts the likelihood of a code change causing a production incident, helping us block high-risk changes before they land.
  4. Navigate the messiness of incident data to build classifiers that distinguish between true and false positive rollbacks, creating a robust dataset for automated mitigation of production failures.
  5. Advance the state of [Cadence](https://cadenceworkflow.io/) workflow versioning by designing "correct-by-design" systems that prevent the manual, error-prone versioning issues that currently lead to production outages.
