3rd Shift Facilities Engineer

This role is for a 3rd Shift Facilities Engineer at Caterpillar, responsible for overseeing maintenance, special projects, and improving operational efficiency within a manufacturing environment. The engineer will manage documentation, perform site condition surveys, support contractor interactions, ensure compliance with specifications and codes, and troubleshoot system or equipment issues. Key skills include collaboration, problem-solving, and project management. Experience with plant facilities, hazard mitigation, safety standards (OSHA, NFPA), industrial facilities, capital projects, and building infrastructure systems is preferred.

What you'd actually do

  1. Assist with and/or develop Capital and Expense projects for review, including development of supporting documentation.
  2. Maintain critical documentation such as Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and Safe Job Procedures (SJP).
  3. Perform site condition surveys, including fire protection, mechanical, electrical, and other miscellaneous condition observations. Assign work and follow-up to rectify findings.
  4. Manage and execute effective handoffs, including follow-up on ongoing project and maintenance work.
  5. Support contractor interactions, contractor safety requirements, and ensure contractors perform work in accordance with Caterpillar’s safety requirements.

  • Previous experience with processes, methodologies and techniques used to manage plant facilities.
  • Experience identifying and mitigating a wide range of actual and/or potential hazards.
  • Working knowledge of standards, procedures and policies, such as OSHA, NFPA, FM, and other standards; ability to plan, guide, and monitor projects and processes for compliance.
  • Knowledge of processes and methods to effectively manage business relationships and transactions with suppliers of raw materials or product components as well as supporting contractors; ability to apply related knowledge, experience and skills into real practice.
  • Managing cost and time performance of contract work.
  • Industrial facility and capital project experience
  • Experience in building infrastructure systems such as building construction (foundation), mechanical, electrical, air, and HVAC .
  • Ability to use AutoCAD, Creo, Solidworks or other engineering software tools
  • Product Development experience
