Accounts Payable Manager

Whatnot · Consumer · San Francisco, CA · Finance

This role is for an Accounts Payable Manager at Whatnot, a livestream shopping platform. The manager will oversee the end-to-end AP function, including vendor payments, internal controls, and vendor experience. Responsibilities include managing a team, enforcing purchase policies, processing payments, supporting month-end close, optimizing AP systems (NetSuite, Zip), managing global AP operations, ensuring audit readiness, and collaborating with other departments. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of AP experience, proficiency in NetSuite and AP tools, experience with multi-entity operations, and strong understanding of internal controls and fraud prevention.

What you'd actually do

  1. Own the full accounts payable cycle — from purchase order and invoice receipt through approval, payment, and reconciliation.
  2. Manage and mentor a small team of AP associates. You’ll provide guidance, prioritization support, and performance feedback.
  3. Enforce Whatnot's purchase policy, ensuring all vendor spend is properly authorized via Zip, contracts are executed via Ironclad, and documentation standards are met. Partner with Finance and Legal to address compliance gaps.
  4. Oversee payment runs (ACH, wire, check) across US and international entities, ensuring proper segregation of duties and approval controls are in place. Identify and mitigate fraud risk in payment workflows.
  5. Own AP close activities including accruals, vendor statement reconciliations, and aged payables review. Ensure completeness and accuracy of AP balances across all entities for month-end reporting.
