Northrop Grumman is seeking an Acoustic Analyst level 5 in Sunnyvale, CA to support the development and ongoing support of US Navy machinery. The role involves using classical analysis techniques to understand and resolve machinery acoustic performance issues, developing predictive/simulation models, and performing various acoustic and vibration analyses. The analyst will gather and analyze test data, correlate model predictions, prepare technical reports, and collaborate with internal and customer teams. Requires a STEM degree with significant experience, proficiency in simulation software like Hypermesh, Nastran, Abaqus, and MATLAB, and the ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.

What you'd actually do

  1. Use classical analysis techniques to establish an understanding of machinery acoustic performance and resolve issues.
  2. Develop a variety of component and system level predictive / simulation models.
  3. Perform modal, vibration, modal, direct frequency response, and sound transmission analyses to predict performance and resolve issues.
  4. Gather data from tests, and analyze the results.
  5. Correlate model predictions to test data to validate the approach / model.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM with 12 years relevant work experience; or Master’s Degree in STEM with 10 years of relevant experience; or Ph.D in STEM with 7 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with simulation software tools: Hypermesh, Nastran, Abaqus, MATLAB (or similar)
  • Must be a US citizen.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.

Nice to have

  • Experience in developing system-level finite element models.
  • Experience in performing a classical and finite element analysis solution types.
  • Experience collecting and analyzing large data sets.
