Aeronautical Engineer / Principal Aeronautical Engineer - Fuel Systems

Northrop Grumman Northrop Grumman · Aerospace · Palmdale, CA +1 · Mechanical

Northrop Grumman is seeking an Aeronautical Engineer or Principal Aeronautical Engineer specializing in Fuel Systems. The role involves subsystem engineering, detailed mechanical design, development of test procedures, system improvement definition, supplier management, and performance validation for fuel, propulsion, fire protection, and ECS. Requires a STEM degree, experience with fuel systems, analysis tools (Siemens AMESIM, MATLAB/Simulink), CAD, and a Secret clearance with the ability to obtain Top Secret and SAP clearances.

What you'd actually do

  1. Responsible for subsystem engineering for fuel, propulsion, fire protection, and ECS: translate system requirements into hardware/software designs, allocate requirements, and maintain traceability from requirements to verification artifacts.
  2. Lead detailed mechanical design and documentation (drawings, BOMs, tolerance stacks, interface control documents) for pumps, valves, feedlines, thrust components, fire detection/suppression hardware, ducts, heat exchangers, and pressure vessels.
  3. Develop test, troubleshooting, and maintenance procedures to support system needs. Perform data analysis as needed, and provide verification artifacts.
  4. Define and champion system improvements and changes as they become necessary. Lead mechanical design and development of system to produce drawings and manufacturing ready documentation.
  5. Serve as an engineering representative in the supplier management team for key suppliers to the system. Manage their performance, technical flow down, and resolution of manufacturing and assembly issues as they arise.
