Aircraft Structures Mechanic Level 1 role at Northrop Grumman, focusing on fabricating and assembling composite components for aircraft structures. What you'd actually do

  1. Fabricate composite components and/or tools, which may include, tool prep, ply kit generation, lamination, vacuum bagging, de-molding, composite trimming, finishing, core fabrication, and composite bonding processes
  2. Performing part-fitting operations such as filing, burring, crimping, trimming, gromet installation, drilling, countersinking and reaming.
  3. Aligning parts on jigs using templates and fixtures
  4. Measuring parts with micrometers and calipers to verify dimensions.
  5. Modifying incomplete and complete assemblies to incorporate engineering changes to structure.

Skills

Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Perform moderate strenuous physical and repetitious work to include: lifting over 25 pounds, working with chemicals, overhead work, climbing up and down ladders, prolonged kneeling, bending, or stooping, carrying tools, testing for and wearing a respirator.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain U.S Government Secret Security Clearance and special program access required
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, assembly drawings, process specifications, technical manuals, written instructions, test procedures, etc.
  • Ability to work flexible, changing shifts, including weekends

Nice to have

  • ActiveU.S Government Secret Clearance with a background investigation completed within the last six years with the ability to obtain program access.
  • A&P License
  • Experience with composite manufacturing, aircraft fabrication, assemblies, components, and systems in an aerospace, automotive, military, manufacturing and/or maintenance environment
  • Experience with high temperature composite materials including Polyimide.
  • Experience with structural subassemblies, including bonding, co-bonding, core bonding and bagging
  • Demonstrated ability using standard measuring equipment and power hand tools
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, technical specifications and operating procedures
