The Airframe Assembly Inspector III at Joby Aviation is responsible for performing detailed inspections on structural assemblies and subassemblies in an aircraft manufacturing environment. This role ensures conformity to specifications, adherence to FAA-approved procedures, and quality control throughout the production process. The inspector will also assist in process analysis and support new inspectors.

What you'd actually do

  1. Performs a variety of tasks ranging from repetitive to non-repetitive production assembly inspection operations on structural assemblies and subassemblies
  2. Works from diagrams and drawings, confirms initial layouts, and uses hand tools to check conformity to specification
  3. Makes continuity checks on work in process and finished work
  4. Conducts quality inspections on processing line in accordance with quality specifications
  5. Follows approved inspection procedures for component or aircraft structures, consulting internal procedures that have been FAA approved, original equipment manufacturers (OEM’s) technical data, and work package instructions

Skills

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in aircraft assembly, mechanical assembly, and/or aircraft structures
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Proficiency in using precision instruments and hand tools for inspections
  • Familiarity with composite part fabrication
  • Ability to interpret work orders, blueprints, and specifications
  • Solid understanding of machines and tools, including their design, operation, maintenance, and repair
  • Proficiency in using air-powered hand tools and related equipment
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and methods to optimize manufacturing and distribution efficiency

Nice to have

  • Five plus years' experience with aircraft composite assembly, mechanical assembly, or aircraft structures
  • Experience with tech data, aircraft drawings, and manufacturing work instructions to perform inspections
  • Familiar with paste/secondary bonded structure
  • A&P and mechanical experience
