Amazon Search team is looking for an Applied Scientist II to build machine learning models for Product Search, develop new ranking features, and implement production-level code for search systems. The role involves owning the full development cycle from design to deployment and A/B testing, with a focus on customer experience and scalability.

What you'd actually do

  1. Build machine learning models for Product Search.
  2. Develop new ranking features and techniques building upon the latest results from the academic research community.
  3. Propose and validate hypothesis to direct our business and product road map.
  4. Work with engineers to make low latency model predictions and scale the throughput of the system.
  5. Focus on identifying and solving customer problems with simple and elegant solutions.

Skills

Required

  • 3+ years of building models for business application experience
  • PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of CS, CE, ML or related field experience
  • Experience in patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
  • Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
  • Experience in any of the following areas: algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high-performance computing

Nice to have

  • Experience using Unix/Linux
  • Experience in professional software development
