Apprentice - Prototype Machinist

This is a 4-year apprenticeship role for a Prototype Machinist at Honeywell in Luton, UK. The apprentice will gain hands-on experience in creating and modifying prototypes for water meters and production equipment, assisting in all aspects of machine shop operations. The role involves learning machining techniques, stock and tool management, machine maintenance, and health & safety procedures. It is designed for individuals seeking a career in the engineering and prototype industry, with a focus on practical learning and obtaining industry-recognized qualifications.

What you'd actually do

  1. Taking people’s concepts, (from full engineering drawings to 121 chats, so you will use your new skills and flair to create), to produce prototype parts
  2. Assist with stock and tool management by looking at what we may need in terms of tools and materials in the future
  3. We try to maintain and fix our machines ourselves, as we have pride in our work, so you will have the opportunity to flex your mechanical muscles too
  4. We take pride in our workplace by working as a team, to ensure the site operates smoothly; no task is to big or small for any of us
  5. Health & Safety is paramount – you will learn the H&S aspects of workshop equipment and contribute to Risk Assessments
  6. Assist with COSHH documentation and controls

Skills

Required

  • Minimum of GCSE a C / level 4 grade or equivalent in math’s and English
  • Can commute with ease to the Luton office
  • Business level English written and spoken language skills
  • Full and permanent right to work in the UK
  • A passion to pursue a career within the engineering and prototype industry, which requires a questioning mind and a hands-on approach
