This role is for an Approved Maintenance Organisation (AMO) Maintenance Team Shift Leader at Boeing Defence UK, responsible for leading and coordinating aircraft maintenance, troubleshooting, inspection, and testing activities for the C-17 Globemaster III. The position requires strong knowledge of aircraft maintenance practices, leadership experience, and familiarity with regulatory and safety standards.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead, supervise and allocate work to shift maintenance personnel to deliver scheduled and unscheduled (as the Boeing Aircraft Support Team) maintenance in accordance with Aircraft Manager (AM) priorities, AMO procedures or as directed by the 99 Sqn management team.
  2. Plan (in consultation with the AM), assign and oversee maintenance tasks including assembly, disassembly, overhaul, modification and upgrade of aircraft systems and components.
  3. Ensure engineering drawings, approved data, maintenance manuals and work instructions are available and correctly interpreted by the team.
  4. Perform and/or oversee validation, verification and disturbed system functional tests to confirm system integrity and performance.
  5. Verify correct tagging, storage and disposition of uninstalled components and consumables in accordance with 7.09.01.009 and material management procedures; update relevant material systems.

Skills

Required

  • Strong knowledge of aircraft maintenance practices: maintenance manuals, engineering drawings, technical data control, defect reporting and root cause analysis.
  • Strong communication skills (both written and oral).
  • Proven supervisory/leadership experience in an AMO (or military equivalent) maintenance environment (team lead / shift leader responsibilities).
  • Familiarity with regulatory, quality and H&S requirements (including tool control, FOD prevention, PPE and human factors).
  • Attention to detail and proficient computer skills, including the Microsoft Office suite.

Nice to have

  • EASA/UK B1 License, either restricted or unrestricted.
  • Aircraft Maintenance, completed an Apprenticeship or have sufficient equivalent practical experience in aircraft maintenance.
  • Ability to hold a company authorisation at the same grade (minimum MOD Phase 2 technical training in line with MAA RA4808(1) regulations), NVQ Level 3.
  • Experience working on the C-17 Globemaster III or similar military transport aircraft.
  • Previous experience in an AMO, military maintenance, or regulated aviation environment.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance, quality standards and aviation Health & Safety requirements.
  • Hold a UK Driving License and be capable of holding an airside driving permit (Colour perception Red/Green safe).
  • Formal training in leadership, quality systems, auditing, and continuous improvement (e.g., Six Sigma/Lean).
