Figure AI is seeking an Associate General Counsel, Commercial to handle complex legal drafting and negotiation for their AI robotics company. This role involves structuring and leading negotiations for partnerships, technology licenses, data licensing, global supply chain agreements, and advising on IP, regulatory, and risk mitigation for humanoid robots and AI-driven products. The ideal candidate will have 4-7+ years of legal experience in technology transactions and commercial law, with a focus on AI, robotics, and hardware.

What you'd actually do

  1. Structure, draft, and lead negotiations for complex outbound partnerships, technology licenses, and data collection/ownership agreements.
  2. Structure and lead negotiations for complex data collection and ownership agreements.
  3. Act as the legal lead for manufacturing, distribution, and warehousing.
  4. Serve as a pragmatic advisor to commercial, engineering and supply chain teams.
  5. Provide timely, concise counsel to internal clients on a wide array of transactional matters, including IP ownership, regulatory and privacy implications, dispute resolution, and risk mitigation.

Skills

Required

  • 4-7+ years of relevant legal experience at a top-ranked law firm, with an emphasis on technology transactions and commercial law
  • J.D. from a top accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the California Bar (or ability to register as In-House Counsel)
  • Proven ability to independently draft and lead negotiations for "first-of-their-kind" agreements in the AI, robotics, and hardware spaces
  • Ability to frame complex legal issues succinctly for executive leadership, providing clear "go/no-go" recommendations rather than open-ended legal memos

Nice to have

  • CIPP/US or other CIPP certifications
  • experience drafting and negotiating data processing agreements and agreements for data collection in AI contexts
  • Prior experience in a hardware-focused environment with a deep understanding of supply chain regulatory regimes
  • Experience drafting RaaS (“Robot-as-a-Service”) agreements
  • Navigate the complexities of international trade and technology transfer
  • Manage legal risks related to EAR/ITAR export control classifications, sanctions compliance, and emerging AI regulatory regimes
  • Familiarity with robotics safety standards (e.g., ISO 10218, ANSI/RIA R15.06) and evolving product liability frameworks for autonomous physical systems
