Netflix is seeking an Associate, Sound Technology in Tokyo, Japan, to support sound workflows for their productions. This role involves providing technical guidance, coordinating with local sound professionals, communicating audio specifications, and documenting sound practices. The ideal candidate has 5 years of experience in film/TV sound, a strong understanding of Japanese sound industry workflows, and proficiency in both Japanese and English.

What you'd actually do

  1. Support Netflix productions in Japan with day-to-day technical guidance for sound, under the mentorship of senior sound technologists
  2. Act as a local point of coordination with Japanese sound recordists, sound supervisors, editors, mixers, post facilities, and dubbing vendors
  3. Help communicate and clarify Netflix audio specifications, deliverables, and best practices to local partners
  4. Observe, document, and report on local production and post-production sound practices, challenges, and opportunities specific to Japan
  5. Assist in onboarding and educating vendors and productions on evolving sound workflows, including near-field vs theatrical considerations

Skills

Required

  • 5 years of professional experience in film and/or television sound, in a technical or hands-on capacity
  • Strong understanding of Japanese film and TV sound workflows
  • Experience working with or alongside sound teams across production, post-production, and/or localization
  • Familiarity with audio deliverables, including M&E tracks, loudness requirements, and basic distribution considerations
  • Working knowledge of surround sound workflows (5.1)
  • Practical experience with Pro Tools and common sound post workflows
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Native or fluent Japanese and professional working proficiency in English
  • Strong collaborative mindset, curiosity, and willingness to learn
