This role is for an Audio Product Design Engineer at Apple, focusing on the design, testing, and production of consumer electronics. Responsibilities include supporting build activities, root cause analysis, building prototypes, analyzing data, participating in design reviews, performing tolerance analyses, creating documentation, and working with operations and vendors. Requires a BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience, CAD skills, and FEA knowledge. Preferred qualifications include experience with international teams, hands-on problem-solving, DFM/DFA, and audio subsystem design.

What you'd actually do

  1. Support build activities including finding root cause for failures and solutions for issues that impede build progress.
  2. Building prototypes to validate function, manufacturability, and reliability.
  3. Analyze data generated from builds and design of experiments.
  4. Participate in design reviews to generate and receive constructive feedback.
  5. Perform tolerance analyses to predict performance of mechanisms, sensors, and cosmetic.

Skills

Required

  • BS and above in Mechanical Engineering, or 3+ years of experience in mechanical design.
  • Computer aided design (CAD) skills: 3D CAD experience required(NX preferred), 2D drafting and GD&T.
  • Knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA) theory and general mechanical engineering analysis.
  • Ability to travel to vendors during weekdays.
  • Fluent Mandarin and English communication skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience of working with many different international teams or OEM/ODM vendors.
  • Hands-on experience of solving problem with engineering knowledge (material mechanics, statics, fluid dynamics…etc) and tools.
  • Deep understanding of engineering fundamentals and ability to apply concepts to new problems not listed in engineering textbooks.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to apply statistical tools and techniques into real-world problem solving.
  • Post-processing knowledge for plastic and metal part, including assembly and fixture design.
  • Industry experiences from medical, consumer electronics, automotive, aerospace and other fields with relevant technology and development models.
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), and Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, and geometric tolerancing.
  • Experience with component modules (Audio drivers, batteries, power supplies, camera modules, etc.)
  • Design of audio subsystems (microphone, speaker, receiver)
