Automation Engineer II at Johnson & Johnson MedTech responsible for design, installation, and qualification of new manufacturing equipment and improvement/optimization of existing manufacturing equipment. Provides technical expertise to resolve manufacturing equipment and automation issues. Collaborates with other plant functions and external vendors, manages projects, supports qualification, leads/supports investigations, evaluates new technologies, prepares reports, coordinates training, analyzes maintenance trends, and ensures compliance with regulations.

What you'd actually do

  1. Collaborates with other plant functions and external vendors to support design of new manufacturing equipment or modify existing manufacturing equipment in accordance with regulatory, industry, and J&J standards.
  2. Effectively and safely manages or supports projects to meet business objectives, including quality, financial, EH&S, and performance goals.
  3. Supports qualification coordination and execution of new and/or improved manufacturing equipment and automation systems.
  4. Leads or supports quality and safety investigations related to equipment.
  5. Supports evaluations of new technologies to improve process safety, quality, reliability, and efficiency.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent with 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment, OR Advanced Degree (M.S.) with relevant Internship or co-op experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) is required.

Nice to have

  • Project management experience is preferred. PMP or similar product management credential is a plus.
  • Experience developing and maintaining engineering design documentation and drawings is preferred.
  • Experience with industrial control systems (PLC/DCS), servomotors, inspection and vision systems, instrumentation, SCADA networks, and/or MES systems is strongly preferred. Willingness to learn industrial control systems is essential. Programming/coding experience is preferred
  • Experience in medical devices, pharmaceuticals, or other regulated industry is preferred. Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and FDA CFR 21 Part 11 is helpful.
  • Lean and/or Six Sigma certification is preferred
