**Essential Responsibilities: **
- Delivers complete solutions spanning all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) (design, implementation, testing, delivery and operations), based on definitions from more senior roles.
- Advises immediate management on project-level issues
- Guides junior engineers
- Operates with little day-to-day supervision, making technical decisions based on knowledge of internal conventions and industry best practices
- Applies knowledge of technical best practices in making decisions
Minimum Qualifications:
- 3+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

As a Backend Software Engineer, your responsibilities will notably include:
- Shape the Foundation: Own and evolve the backend services that power payment experiences for millions of merchants and consumers worldwide.
- Drive Technical Excellence: Influence architectural decisions and champion best practices around reliability, scalability, and security across the platform.
- Collaborate Across Boundaries: Work closely with product managers, frontend engineers, and other stakeholders to translate business needs into robust technical solutions.
- Elevate the Team: Share your expertise through code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge-sharing sessions, helping raise the bar for the entire engineering team.
You day-to-day:
- You will focus on your learning while helping to deliver high quality solutions to our users.
- Collaborate with the team to define, design, and ship new features.
- You work closely with product to understand context and vision.
- You will learn and work with your peers in the Backend chapter to make incremental platform improvements and increase learning opportunities for all in a supportive environment.
- You can bring your desire to innovate during and hack weeks and lab days on a bimonthly basis.
What do you need to succeed:
- Advanced proficiency in Java, with strong expertise in core concepts, design patterns, and optimization techniques.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Java frameworks like Spring (Spring Boot, Spring MVC) and Hibernate, building scalable and maintainable solutions.
- Proven experience in designing and implementing high-performance API services, focusing on scalability, reliability, and performance in production environments.
- Strong ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, contributing to technical leadership through code reviews, design discussions, and mentoring less experienced engineers.
