Battery Systems Senior Engineer Design

This role is for a Battery Systems Senior Engineer Design at Caterpillar, focusing on the design, analysis, building, and implementation of new battery systems and components for rail and marine customer applications. The engineer will own the top-level system design, structural rack/pack design, and interface routing for cooling, communications, and high voltage connections. Responsibilities include using simulation tools for evaluations, assisting with hardware procurement and builds, supporting customers, collaborating with manufacturing and purchasing, contributing to FMEAs and Risk Assessments, and protecting intellectual property. A Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required, along with strong analytical thinking, communication, and project management skills. Preferred skills include experience in battery pack/rack design and proficiency with CAD/PLM software.

What you'd actually do

  1. Own the design of battery systems design used to integrate battery packages into customer applications. This would include owning the top-level system design as well as the structural rack/pack and interface routing and location for cooling, communications, and high voltage connections.
  2. Utilize a robust problem solving and implementation process to resolve and improve designs
  3. Evaluate and optimize designs using simulation tools structural or thermal evaluations
  4. Assist in procurement and builds of system hardware; document and develop build improvements through design or process optimization.
  5. Support customers and dealer product support teams to develop Application & Integration guides and Disassembly & Assembly procedures.

  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members and inside and outside their work group
