Building and Systems Engineering (base) Maintenance Mechanic

This role is for a Maintenance Mechanic or Industrial Electrician at UPS, responsible for maintaining the package sorting system, including belt conveyors. The job involves inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and replacing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic components, as well as welding and performing preventive maintenance. It requires a Grade 12 education or equivalent and good interpersonal skills. Experience with conveyor belts, electrical schematics, and computer skills are considered assets.

What you'd actually do

  1. Inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing and/or replacing mechanical components such as motors, reducers, drive chains, sprockets, sheaves, pulleys, rollers, conveyor belts, bearings, and transfer plates
  2. Troubleshooting, adjusting and replacing AC and DC electrical equipment such as batteries, control stations, fuses, motor starters, relays, switches, timers and PLC
  3. Inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing and/or replacing pneumatic equipment such as puck sorters, flow splitters, diverters, air compressors, lubricators, hoses, and coils
  4. Inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing and/or replacing hydraulic equipment such as hoses, fittings, cylinders, and pumps
  5. Welding equipment such as handrails, conveyor supports, package handling equipment, carts, and grating
  6. Performing preventive maintenance inspections of plant equipment such as conveyors, bulk carts, and power industrial equipment

Skills

Required

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Ability to receive and give instructions over the radio in an industrial environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Nice to have

  • Experience in performing maintenance on conveyor belts
  • Knowledge of electrical and building schematics
  • Knowledge of keyboard and basic computer skills
