This role supports the configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of building automation and Operational Technology (OT) systems within critical infrastructure, focusing on analysis, technical execution, and operational partnership. It involves diagnostics, software/firmware updates, security control monitoring, automation logic development, commissioning support, and documentation. The ideal candidate has 0-2 years of experience in related engineering disciplines and a foundational understanding of automation and control systems.

What you'd actually do

  1. Support configuration, routine maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of building automation and OT systems, including BMS, EPMS, PLCs, SCADA/HMI, and related field devices.
  2. Assist with diagnostics, software and firmware updates, point-to-point verification, alarm checks, and device health reviews for controls and OT infrastructure.
  3. Help monitor OT security controls and follow established procedures related to access, segmentation, patching coordination, and cybersecurity compliance.
  4. Assist with development, testing, and troubleshooting of automation logic and controls solutions for critical mechanical, electrical, and supporting systems.
  5. Support commissioning, startup, turnover, and system validation activities for new or modified automation infrastructure.

Skills

Required

  • Foundational understanding of automation and control systems, industrial networking, or OT/ICS environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability with a willingness to learn troubleshooting methods for automation and OT systems.
  • Ability to work effectively with engineering, operations, and cross-functional project teams.
  • Strong attention to detail in technical documentation and system records.
  • Basic understanding of industrial controls, networking, and automation system components.
  • Strong learning agility and hands-on technical curiosity.

Nice to have

  • Coursework, labs, internships, or training related to Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Ignition, Niagara, or industrial networking.
  • Introductory exposure to PLCs, DCS, SCADA, BMS, EPMS, field I/O, instrumentation, or controls graphics.
  • Foundational understanding of Ethernet/IP, switches, VLANs, redundancy concepts, or common industrial protocols.
  • Exposure to scripting or automation-related tools such as Python or JavaScript is a plus.
  • Awareness of OT cybersecurity frameworks such as IEC 62443 or NIST 800-82 is a plus.
  • OEM, platform, or industry training related to controls, networking, or BMS/SCADA systems is a plus.
