Business Development Representative (inside Sales) - Japan

This role is for a Business Development Representative at DeepL, an AI company specializing in language AI products like translation and voice translation. The BDR will focus on converting inbound leads from marketing campaigns and events into qualified pipeline for the sales team. Responsibilities include lead follow-up, qualification, and collaborating with the marketing team. The role requires fluency in Japanese and English, and at least 6 months of sales or customer-facing experience.

What you'd actually do

  1. Own end-to-end follow-up for all event leads, including webinars, trade shows, DeepL Connect, and virtual events.
  2. Respond rapidly to inbound leads from contact forms, free trials, white paper downloads, and content engagement.
  3. Apply DeepL's discovery framework to ensure every meeting includes a full, documented understanding of the prospect's situation, needs, and priorities.
  4. Work as an extension of the Marketing team, providing the critical link between campaign activity and pipeline generation.
  5. Support a collaborative, positive team environment with high energy and high standards.

Skills

Required

  • Business fluency in English (written and spoken) and native or bilingual fluency in Japanese
  • Minimum 6 months of relevant sales or customer-facing experience, ideally in SaaS (SDR/BDR/Inside Sales).
  • Active listening skills and natural curiosity to understand customer requirements and map them to the DeepL product suite.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment, particularly during high-volume event periods.
