This role is for a Certification Project Engineer, International at Joby Aviation, focusing on supporting validation and certification projects with International Civil Aviation Authorities. The engineer will drive project execution, coordinate with stakeholders, and represent Joby in technical and project management meetings with authorities. Responsibilities include planning, scoping, developing compliance strategies, authoring certification documents, and managing project schedules and risks. The role requires a BS in Engineering, 7+ years of experience in civil aviation, and direct experience with Civil Aviation Authorities and Type Certification projects.

What you'd actually do

  1. Driving the planning and execution of international certification or validation projects
  2. Serving as one of the key stakeholders for technical aspects of international certification and validation projects to which they are assigned, including leading strategic project scoping and planning initiatives
  3. Representing Joby and coordinating with International Civil Aviation Authorities, including leading key project meetings such as familiarization meetings, technical interface meetings, status reviews, road map planning, and project management reviews
  4. Working closely with DERs and engineering leads to develop applicant positions and compliance strategies
  5. Support the development of Applicant positions on strategic new policy development, airworthiness standards, means of compliance, Issue Papers, certification plans, and test plans for international projects

Required

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related technical discipline
  • Previous Type Certification or Validation project experience
  • Previous project management or project engineering experience
  • Direct experience working with Civil Aviation Authorities
  • Experience developing applicant positions on complex compliance issues
  • 7+ years of experience in the civil aviation industry
  • Effective at leading technical projects and coordinating with technical professionals
  • Excellent problem solving, communication, coordination, and technical writing skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Strong organizational skills and highly detail-oriented
  • Strong time and project management abilities
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Docs
  • Proficient in English
  • Able to travel internationally, at least 30% of the time

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree or higher
  • Experience with multiple International Civil Aviation Authorities
  • Experience on multiple, whole-aircraft, certification projects including clean-sheet designs
  • Strong knowledge of Part 23 Amendment 64 intent and the corollary role of industry consensus standards
  • Strong knowledge of 14 CFR Parts 23, 25, 27, and 29 regulations, policy, and guidance material
  • Experience with Continued Operational Safety
  • Strong knowledge of ICAO, EASA, or other international regulatory standards
  • Strong knowledge of ASTM, RTCA, and SAE standards
  • Basic understanding of operations, pilot licensing, and mechanic licensing regulations and certification processes
  • 10+ years of experience in the civil aviation industry
  • Experience using Dassault, Atlassian, and Polarian software tools
  • Pilot experience or other experience with aircraft flight operations
  • Proficiency in language(s) other than English
