About the Team Our Infrastructure Engineering team builds and operates hyperscale data centers, manages the full lifecycle of server clusters, delivers cloud solutions, and develops foundational infrastructure services. We ensure scalability and reliability of systems, supporting the company’s rapid growth.
Responsibilities: As a Cloud Leader, you will b designing, building, scaling, and operating ByteDance’s global infrastructure across large-scale systems in both public and private cloud environments.
- Develop internal tools, automation frameworks, visualization platforms, and monitoring systems to streamline workflows and continuously improve the efficiency of global infrastructure.
- Build, manage, and standardize multi-environment cloud images (e.g., AMIs and machine images) in compliance with global security and governance standards.
- Continuously improve operational efficiency in public cloud environments, proactively identifying and mitigating reliability risks.
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment by participating in on-call rotations and handling incidents related to cloud platforms, operating systems, networking, performance, and system reliability.
- Drive continuous improvement across the full infrastructure lifecycle - from ideation and architecture design to development, deployment, user support, and ongoing optimization.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Security, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in Linux systems operations, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or DevOps, preferably in large-scale production environments.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Go, Python, or C++, with strong engineering capabilities in platform development, system tooling, and automation.
- Solid computer science fundamentals, with in-depth understanding of Linux internals, computer networking, storage systems, GPU systems, and databases, along with strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
- Familiarity with core reliability engineering practices, including monitoring and alerting, capacity planning, change management, canary releases, incident response, and post-incident reviews.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience working in global teams. Ability to proactively identify issues, drive cross-functional execution, and demonstrate strong ownership and results orientation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with public cloud platforms, or deep familiarity with leading cloud providers such as OCI, AWS, Azure, or GCP and their underlying architectures.
- Experience in large-scale cloud instance provisioning, image/AMI systems, resource scheduling, network adaptation, and virtualization technologies such as KVM and QEMU.
- Experience in cross-region compliance and access control, with the ability to design and optimize security and governance frameworks.
- Experience working directly with major cloud providers across the full lifecycle (resource selection, provisioning, operations, and reliability), especially with advanced GPU instance families (e.g., B/GB series).
- Proven experience delivering reliability-focused projects, such as fault injection/chaos engineering systems, capacity management, change governance, observability platform development, and infrastructure cost optimization.
