Cnc Eastman and Operator – Composites Technician

This role involves programming, setting up, and operating CNC mills for composite material fabrication, interpreting engineering drawings and CAD models, collaborating with engineers, selecting tooling, performing quality checks, and contributing to process improvements. Requires experience as a CNC programmer/operator and proficiency in CAM software.

What you'd actually do

  1. Program, set up, and operate 3-axis and 5-axis CNC mills (and routers) to kitand airbrush fiberglass & foam cores
  2. Interpret complex engineering drawings, CAD models (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360), and CAM files (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion, or NX) to produce accurate components to spec.
  3. Collaborate with mechanical engineers, composites technicians, and systems integrators to ensure fit, function, and manufacturability of parts.
  4. Select appropriate tooling, feeds, speeds, and fixturing strategies for high-accuracy work on composite materials.
  5. Perform in-process quality checks and post-process inspections using calipers, micrometers, and other precision tools.

Skills

Required

  • 3+ years of experience as a CNC programmer/operator at a high-rate boat building factory
  • Strong experience with CAM software (Fusion 360, Mastercam, NX, or equivalent)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and GD&T
  • Comfortable working in a startup or fast-paced R&D environment
  • Strong attention to detail and self-motivation
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to identify differences between different fiberglass types and designs

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with 5-axis machines and multi-axis toolpath strategies
  • Prior experience in the maritime composite manufacturing industries
