Joby Aviation is seeking a CNC Machine Operator to join their manufacturing team. This role involves operating 5-axis CNC routers for trimming composite aircraft parts, collaborating with programmers and engineers, and providing feedback on the machining process. The position requires hands-on experience, a "get it done" attitude, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

What you'd actually do

  1. Set up and operate 5 axis CNC Routers to trim composite aircraft parts.
  2. Provide feedback upstream on setup, machining strategy, order of operations, tool selection, speed/feed parameters, etc.
  3. Provide feedback on how to maintain and improve part quality
  4. Assist team with developing best practices for the machining process focused on increased efficiency and productivity
  5. Organize and manage multiple responsibilities with a high degree of efficiency

Skills

Required

  • 6+ months of machining experience or relevant coursework
  • Basic exposure to cutting tools for mills: flat, ball, & multi-fluted, end mills, drills.
  • 6+ months in a shop environment, preferably wood, plastic, & or metal machining
  • Experience with hand tools, ie. Drills, reamers, tap/die, files, precision pins, etc
  • HS Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Experience working in fast-paced, time sensitive environments
  • Demonstrated abilities following standardized work instructions, technical requirements, and executing standard processes.
  • Able to use computers at an intermediate level
  • Continuous standing, squatting, bending, pulling, twisting, and lifting throughout the workday.
  • Lifting of 50 lbs. or less aided or unaided throughout the day.
  • Must wear PPE when required.
  • Have no known allergies to epoxies or other composites materials and able to become certified to wear a respirator.
  • Must be able to walk or stand for extended periods.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, and being able to maneuver in tight spaces

Nice to have

  • 1+ year of manufacturing experience
  • Experience with vacuum holding trim fixtures
  • Familiarity with composites (fiber glass or carbon fiber)
  • Experience with large format, "gantry" style 5-axis CNC machines
  • Familiarity with CNC machine controllers
  • Familiarity with g-code
  • Experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment
  • Experience in a high-volume production environment that relies on a well-defined process to achieve maximum efficiency.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing or 5S environments.
