Boeing is hiring a CNC Machinist for night shifts in Sheffield, UK. The role involves setting up, operating, and maintaining various CNC machines, ensuring quality and efficiency. Responsibilities include tooling management, program verification, process feedback, and adhering to safety and company procedures. Requires a time-served engineer with CNC experience, good numeracy, literacy, and IT skills. Preferred qualifications include knowledge of cutting tools, fixtures, troubleshooting, and experience in regulated environments like aerospace (AS9100).

What you'd actually do

  1. Set-up / changeover and or operate a range of Mill-turn/ Twin Turret / CNC Grinding Machines or Sliding head machines and machining centers by installing and adjusting work holding, tooling and tool wear offsets.
  2. Efficiently and productively load and safely operate a range of CNC machines ensuring that down time is minimised.
  3. Able to run multiple machines / set-ups (multi task).
  4. Recognise, deploy, and properly use inserts, work holding, and tooling.
  5. Efficient identification of production process tool wear and the timely adjustment, replacement of worn, broken or damaged cutting tools.

  • Skilled, time-served engineer with experience of setting and operating CNC machines
  • Good level of numeracy and literacy
  • Good level of IT skills.
  • Communicates honestly, professionally, and respectfully with others and demonstrates effective listening skills.
  • Perform daily and regular cleaning and light maintenance tasks on machinery.

Nice to have

  • A strong working knowledge of cutting tool setting and applications and competent with the use of complex fixtures.
  • Understands and can perform workshift and tool wear compensation / offsets.
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations. (Ability to apply concepts such as trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations).
  • Used to working to tight tolerances in a wide range of materials.
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Able to troubleshoot machining processes and work under own initiative.
  • Able to train and mentor others.
  • Comfortable working within an ISO 9001 controlled environment
  • Experience of working in a dynamic sub-contract machining environment.
