Cnc Prototyping Machinist

Meta Meta · Big Tech · Redmond, WA

Meta Reality Labs is seeking a CNC Machinist and Prototyper to join their mechanical prototyping facility. This role involves programming, machining, collaborating with engineers on design debugging and test fixture development, and assembly. The facility is equipped with advanced CNC machines, laser cutting, and waterjet cutting. The machinist will be responsible for the safe setup, operation, and maintenance of equipment, tooling, and fixture procurement. The role requires working closely with the mechanical engineering team to resolve design and manufacturing issues, with an emphasis on finding efficient ways to produce parts from CAD models. The qualifications include significant experience in prototyping with advanced CNC machinery, proficiency in CAM and CAD software, skills in electro-mechanical assembly, and computer literacy. Notably, the role requires demonstrated experience integrating AI tools for workflow optimization, adhering to ethical AI practices, and ongoing AI skill development, including prompt engineering and agent orchestration. Experience with additive manufacturing, laser cutting, injection molding, water jet, and Wire EDM is also mentioned, along with a degree in machining or engineering and exposure to code management.

What you'd actually do

  1. CAM programming and operation of all CNC and manual machining equipment
  2. CNC Machining of complex parts in metal and plastic
  3. Interact with design engineers on part functionality, advise on the part suitability for machining
  4. Clear communication of timelines and expectations to other groups within Meta
  5. Improve the systems and tools we rely on via continuous improvement
