Commissioning Supervisor

This role supervises vessel crewing, testing execution, and operational activities during commissioning and sea trials for autonomous maritime platforms. Responsibilities include leading teams, executing testing plans, ensuring quality and safety, and coordinating with various departments to prepare vessels for delivery and certification.

What you'd actually do

  1. Supervise vessel operators, test crew, and contractors during commissioning and sea trials
  2. Execute vessel testing plans and operational checklists in accordance with schedules
  3. Perform quality checks and verify testing results meet specifications
  4. Enforce Saronic EHS policies, shipyard safety rules, and operational risk controls
  5. Coordinate daily activities with vendors, software, production, and engineering teams

Skills

Required

  • Strong understanding of vessel operations, sea trials, and commissioning workflows
  • Working knowledge of maritime regulations, navigation safety, and best practices
  • Ability to organize and lead small teams in dynamic operational environments
  • Strong attention to detail and technical aptitude
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to escalate issues appropriately and provide clear status updates

  • Support onboarding, training, and mentoring of new operators and crew
  • Provide performance feedback and input to the MUSV Commissioning Manager
  • Serve as on-scene operational lead during testing activities
  • Ensure vessels are prepared for safe operation prior to each test evolution
  • Identify defects, discrepancies, or test failures and report findings promptly
  • Ensure accurate completion of logs, checklists, test reports, and operational records
  • Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions in coordination with QA/QC
  • Assist in ensuring testing is following USCG protocol
  • Conduct pre-job briefings and ensure PPE and safe work practices are followed
  • Report on hazards, incidents, and near-misses immediately
  • Support compliance with USCG, ABS, and internal safety requirements
  • Support CONOPS development and operational validation during testing
  • Interface with vessel masters, port authorities, and contractors as directed
  • Assist with smooth handoffs from EOL testing to Mission Operations
  • Troubleshoot operational, testing, and quality issues in real time
  • Provide recommendations to leadership regarding process improvements
  • Support efficient use of personnel, equipment, and test assets
  • Maintain accurate and timely operational documentation
  • Assist in evaluating testing effectiveness and operational readiness
  • Follow all shipyard and vessel safety policies, including PPE, fire safety, and confined space requirements
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment
  • Represent Saronic positively to internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrate accountability for safety, quality, and operational outcomes
  • Work independently while contributing effectively to a team environment
  • Maintain professional conduct with coworkers, supervisors, vendors, and customers
  • Willingness to travel to Mission Ops and testing sites within CONUS as required
