OpenAI is seeking a Communications Manager for India to shape and execute the company's communications strategy, focusing on consumer and product-centric narratives. This role involves translating product updates into clear stories, managing media engagement, supporting launches, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to build excitement and ensure local resonance for OpenAI's tools.

What you'd actually do

  1. Build and evolve an India-specific narrative that makes OpenAI’s tools feel relevant, useful, and human to consumers in general, and our product users in specific.
  2. Translate product and research updates into clear, culturally aware stories that resonate with Indian audiences across languages, contexts, and levels of digital maturity.
  3. Build a steady drumbeat of “what’s new + why it matters”, while reiterating the value of existing products / features, across earned media and influencer channels.
  4. Support external activations that accelerate adoption and positive word-of-mouth.
  5. Drive media engagement (proactive + reactive; global + local), with agency support.

Skills

Required

  • 8+ years of communications experience (in-house and/or agency)
  • Meaningful exposure to consumer narratives in India
  • Strong writing and editing
  • Comfort operating in fast-moving environments with shifting priorities and imperfect information
  • Experience supporting exec communications
  • Proven ability to manage multiple internal stakeholders, drive alignment, collaborate across time zones, and operate with discretion
  • Strong understanding of India’s media landscape (mainstream + business + tech + influencer/ influencer ecosystem)

Nice to have

  • Experience communicating tech products (consumer internet, platforms, devices, or AI)
  • Working with technical teams
  • Demonstrated experience with corporate communications and issues/ crisis management
  • Familiarity with OpenAI’s tools as a consumer, beyond the basic use of ChatGPT
