Compliance Program Manager

This role is for a Regulatory Compliance Program Manager focused on consumer and commercial hardware devices. The manager will own regulatory compliance for these devices, develop compliance strategies, anticipate emerging regulatory areas, translate complex standards into actionable guidance for engineering and operations, and report on compliance metrics. The role requires knowledge of global environmental regulations and Microsoft consumer hardware products to ensure market readiness across global jurisdictions.

What you'd actually do

  1. Monitor environmental regulations across target markets; identify trends, risks, and priorities.
  2. Develop a compliance strategy and process for hardware programs independently, from new-product introduction through sustaining and end-of-life.
  3. Use your own judgment and risk analysis skills to anticipate new areas of regulatory focus driven by the evolving risk environment and product ecosystem.
  4. Educate engineering and operations teams on compliance requirements.
  5. Develop and report compliance metrics and audit issues for both internal and external reporting.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 3+ years of experience in hardware regulatory compliance, certification, or a closely related field
  • Knowledge of environmental and materials regulations such as RoHS, REACH, WEEE, ESPR, PPWR and the relevant regulations across global jurisdictions
  • Experience with market-access marking and declarations, including CE, packaging recycling mark, and Supplier's Declaration of Conformity (SDoC)
  • Demonstrated ability to develop compliance programs, define and test controls, and conduct internal and external audits independently
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Sound judgment, and decision-making in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Proficiency in program management, quality assurance, problem solving, and systems thinking
  • Professional proficiency in English

Nice to have

  • Experience applying broader regulatory compliance frameworks across multiple international jurisdictions
  • Direct collaboration experience with regulators, notified bodies, or accredited test laboratories
  • Exposure to responsible sourcing programs, including conflict minerals / 3TG
  • Basic financial analysis skills to evaluate compliance trade-offs and resource allocation
  • Ability to assess and articulate product compliance risk for hardware across global markets, including likelihood/severity evaluation, business impact (market access, launch timing, enforcement, recall, and reputation)
  • Experience supporting high-volume consumer hardware manufacturing operations
  • Ability to influence and align cross-functional stakeholders without direct authority
