Composite Demold and Tool Prep Technician - All Shifts

This role is for a Composite Tool Prep and Demold Technician at Joby Aviation. The technician will prepare composite tooling surfaces for layup and execute the demolding process, including applying release agents and removing cured parts. The role requires attention to detail, understanding of composite materials, and proficiency with tools and equipment. Training and development are provided for apprentices.

What you'd actually do

  1. Safely demold cured composite parts from tools/molds without damaging part or tool
  2. Use approved hand tools, wedges, air assist, or hydraulic systems per work instructions
  3. Identify and report part defects discovered during demold (surface issues, bridging, voids, tool marks, etc.)
  4. Protect critical surfaces during handling and transfer to next operation
  5. Clean molds and tooling surfaces using approved solvents, wipes, and methods

Skills

Required

  • HS Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Experience working in fast-paced, time sensitive environments
  • Demonstrated abilities following standardized work instructions, technical requirements, and executing standard processes.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs aided or unaided throughout the day.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and record-keeping purposes.
  • Must wear PPE when required.
  • Have no known allergies to epoxies or other composites materials and able to become certified to wear a respirator.
  • Must be able to walk or stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, and being able to maneuver in tight spaces.
  • Ability to become forklift, crane, or equipment certified.
  • Must be able to continuously stand, squatt bend, pull, twist, and lift throughout the workday for long periods of time.

Nice to have

  • 1+ year of manufacturing experience
  • Experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment
  • Experience in a high-volume production environment that relies on a well-defined process to achieve maximum efficiency.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing or 5S environments.
