This role is responsible for the day-to-day communications of classified environments, including drafting policies, implementing security procedures, reviewing security practices, and evaluating the organization's COMSEC program. The custodian will maintain and direct the receipt, custody, transfer, safeguarding, accounting, and destruction/disposition of Communications Security key material. This involves conducting inventories, performing installations of secure equipment, administering inventory and document control programs, ensuring physical security accreditation, training personnel, and couriering classified information.

What you'd actually do

  1. Conduct secure equipment (e.g., secure telephone and encryption devices) and classified keying material inventories, inspections and other COMSEC related support and oversight functions.
  2. Perform installation of secure telephone equipment (STE) and coordinate to deliver encryption device(s) and keying material to select Information Technology (IT) specialists maintaining classified networks.
  3. Administer a Top Secret inventory and document control program to account for COMSEC equipment and materials.
  4. Ensure proper physical security accreditation has been issued by designated Program Security Officers for supported facilities.
  5. Train personnel in COMSEC procedures and the use of related equipment.

Skills

Required

  • Top Secret security clearance
  • Familiar with COMSEC requirements and procedures
  • Familiar with security policy/manuals and the appropriate ICDs/JAFANs/DOD Manuals
  • Experience with Modern Fill Devices (MFD) or Simple Key Loader (SKL)
  • Eligibility for access to Special Access Programs
  • 2-4 years of experience in a Comsec role

Nice to have

  • Experience with the Communications Security Logistics Activity (CSLA), Information System Security Program Application (ISSPA), and COMSEC Automated Registration System (CARS)
  • Experience with crypto evaluation reports and maintaining matrices of crypto items / keys
  • Completed the TRADOC-approved Key Management Infrastructure (KMI) course and the COMSEC Account Manager Course (CAMC)
  • Experience with KMI Operating Account (KOA) Agents (KOAAs)
