Consulting Member of Technical Staff

Oracle Oracle · Enterprise · Austin, TX +1

Senior Staff Engineer role focused on building and operating AI/agentic systems and workflows within Oracle's cloud infrastructure (OCI). The role involves leading architecture, implementation, and operation of distributed systems, with a strong emphasis on security, reliability, and responsible AI delivery. Key responsibilities include establishing agentic-first engineering workflows, building production AI/agent workflows (RAG, tool use, evaluations, orchestration), and applying secure-by-default and responsible AI practices. Requires deep experience in distributed systems, cloud platforms, security products, and practical experience with LLM/agent patterns and AI development tools.

What you'd actually do

  1. Establish agentic-first engineering workflows for planning, prototyping, debugging, refactoring, test generation, documentation, code review, and delivery while maintaining clear human accountability.
  2. Build or integrate production AI/agent workflows, including tool use, RAG, agent harnesses, evaluation suites, workflow orchestration, AI observability, guardrails, and LLM-backed experiences.
  3. Lead the architecture, implementation, testing, rollout, and operation of high-scale distributed systems, APIs, services, data pipelines, platform components, and security product capabilities.
  4. Own multi-quarter, multi-team initiatives end to end, from ambiguous product, customer, and security requirements through design, execution, launch, observability, and production support.
  5. Apply secure-by-default and responsible-AI practices across identity, access control, secrets handling, dependency hygiene, data protection, threat modeling, secure code review, and AI safety controls.

  • Strong programming ability in one or more languages such as Java, Python, Go, C++, Rust, or TypeScript
  • Proven experience designing and operating distributed systems, cloud services, SaaS platforms, data systems, or infrastructure services at scale
  • Hands-on experience building or operating large-scale security products or security-sensitive cloud platform capabilities
  • Deep knowledge of system design, APIs, data modeling, concurrency, asynchronous processing, failure modes, consistency tradeoffs, performance analysis, and production troubleshooting
  • Experience with cloud platforms, containers or Kubernetes, CI/CD, observability, automated testing, deployment automation, SLOs/SLIs, on-call practices, and operational readiness
  • Hands-on use of AI-assisted and agentic development tools
  • Practical experience with LLM and agent patterns such as prompt engineering, structured outputs, RAG, tool/function calling, agent frameworks, harnesses, evaluations, guardrails, or workflow automation
  • Strong security judgment, communication skills, and technical leadership

Nice to have

  • Experience building high-scale, low-latency, high-availability, multi-tenant distributed systems
