Control Systems Engineer

Caterpillar Caterpillar · Industrial · Mossville, IL

Control Systems Engineer role focused on designing, developing, and validating electro-mechanical systems and mechatronic devices for engine performance and emissions optimization. Responsibilities include developing and verifying control algorithms using simulation (Matlab/Simulink, GT-Power) and on-engine testing, collaborating with stakeholders, and analyzing data.

What you'd actually do

  1. Collaborate with process partners to develop and refine engine control system requirements.
  2. Utilize expertise in engines and dynamic feedback controls—including frequency and time domain design, Multi Input Multi Output (MIMO) systems, digital signal processing, filter design, and logical control methodologies—to design and evaluate control features.
  3. Develop and maintain Matlab/Simulink and GT-Power-based Model-in-Loop (MiL) simulation framework for use in design and verification of control algorithms.
  4. Analyze and present data using advanced analysis and visualization tools such as Vector CANape, Matlab, and Python.
  5. Deliver timely, high-quality simulation-driven design analyses and provide clear, actionable recommendations to stakeholders.
