Controls Engineering Specialist – Eh Brake‑by‑wire Systems

Caterpillar Caterpillar · Industrial · Mossville, IL

Controls Engineering Specialist for Electrohydraulic (EH) Brake by Wire systems, focusing on design, development, and integration. The role involves leading controls and software development using Model-Based Development and AUTOSAR, defining system architecture, developing embedded control algorithms, and supporting functional safety activities. It also requires collaboration with cross-functional teams and engagement with autonomy and advanced feature teams.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead controls and software development for EH brake‑by‑wire and brake mechatronics systems across multiple machine applications using Model-Based Development and AUTOSAR.
  2. Define and own brake control system architecture, interfaces, and core functions to enable reuse and scalability.
  3. Develop and integrate embedded control algorithms for service brake torque control, arbitration, diagnostics, and state estimation.
  4. Collaborate with hardware, hydraulics, and software teams to align valve hardware, sensors, ECMs, and control logic.
  5. Support functional safety activities, including safety goal definition, hazard analysis, and alignment with ISO brake standards.
