Lead or Senior Controls Systems Analysis & Design Engineer with experience in closed loop control systems development, design, implementation, integration and tests for advanced concepts for the US Government. Responsibilities include controls system requirements definition, controls architecture development, integration and test, Validation & Verification (V&V) of requirements, and system support throughout the product lifecycle. Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field and 5+ years of programming experience (C, C++, Fortran, Python, Matlab, etc.). Preferred qualifications include 10+ years of experience, active Top Secret clearance, and experience in control of optical and electro-optical systems.

What you'd actually do

  1. Develop high-fidelity mathematical models of dynamic systems (e.g., mechanical, electrical, thermal processes) using first-principles physics and empirical system identification techniques
  2. Create detailed control system design specifications, mathematical derivations, simulation reports, and V&V
  3. Develop and execute Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) tests for algorithm validation
  4. Collaborate closely with software/firmware engineers to translate complex control algorithms into executable code (e.g., C/C++, VHDL) for embedded systems, real-time operating systems (RTOS), or FPGA platforms
  5. Support electrical, mechanical, firmware and software teams as the controls Subject Matter Expert

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • 5+ years of experience with one or more of the following programming languages (C, C++, Fortran, Python, Matlab, etc.)

Nice to have

  • 10+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Active U.S. Top Secret security clearance
  • 5+ years of professional experience in designing, modeling, and implementing advanced control algorithms for dynamic systems
  • 5+ years of experience developing electronic equipment used in controls
  • Experience in control of optical systems (gimbals, fast steering mirrors, etc.)
  • Experience with electro-optical systems (EO systems, electro optics)
  • Prior experience leading an engineering team
