This role supports OpenAI's legal team in developing and leading privacy initiatives for advanced AI products, models, and technologies. The Counsel will engage with research, product, engineering, privacy, and security teams to address privacy, regulatory, and legal risks, build scalable processes for the privacy program, and become an expert in AI privacy matters and policy.

What you'd actually do

  1. Support OpenAI research, product, engineering, privacy, and security teams in the development and release of cutting-edge AI products and services
  2. Anticipate and address privacy, regulatory, product, and other legal risks
  3. Develop strategies for handling legal issues in creative ways and build scalable, flexible processes to manage risk
  4. Help build and improve processes for scaling our privacy program as the company grows
  5. Become an expert in AI privacy matters and help propose and advance AI legal policy positions

Skills

Required

  • JD and licensed or qualified to practice in California
  • 6+ years of legal experience, with a mix of in-house and technology-focused law firm roles
  • Strategic privacy counsel on complex and emerging technologies in fast-paced environments
  • Strong sense of ownership
  • Inquisitive and enthusiastic about technology
  • Sound judgment in ambiguous situations
  • Excel in communication and interpersonal skills
  • Collaborative and proactive approach
  • Track record of working effectively in a cross-functional environment
