This role provides legal support for U.S. commercial programs within DePuy Synthes, partnering closely with Sales, Marketing, and Commercial Operations to enable compliant, patient‑focused growth. The Counsel will advise on healthcare and competition laws, commercial strategy, and risk mitigation while helping shape programs that support customers and improve patient outcomes.

What you'd actually do

  1. Provide legal counsel and strategic guidance on U.S. commercial programs, including pricing, contracting, promotions, and customer engagement initiatives.
  2. Advise on compliance with U.S. healthcare laws and regulations (e.g., Anti‑Kickback Statute).
  3. Review, draft, and negotiate commercial agreements, including customer contracts and program terms, conditions and policies.
  4. Partner with cross‑functional stakeholders (Sales, Marketing, Finance, Health Care Compliance) to assess legal risk and develop practical, business‑focused solutions.
  5. Support development and implementation of compliant commercial strategies and promotional programs across the U.S. market.

Skills

Required

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant contracting legal experience, in-house, in government or in private practice, with a focus on U.S. general commercial, healthcare, or life sciences matters or government contracting.
  • Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Experience advising on healthcare regulatory and compliance issues affecting commercial programs.
  • Ability to translate complex legal requirements into clear, actionable and practical business guidance.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with cross‑functional stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to influence and build relationships and consensus.

Nice to have

  • In-house legal experience within a medical device, medtech, healthcare, pharmaceutical, or broader life sciences organization.
  • Familiarity with U.S. medical device or medtech commercial models, including value-based arrangements and customer programs.
  • Experience supporting sales, marketing, or commercial operations teams.
  • Prior experience working with or advising on government contracting, pricing or reimbursement‑related programs.
