Internship role for Data Center Technicians at Microsoft, focusing on the core infrastructure that powers cloud services. Responsibilities include assisting with equipment installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance, adhering to safety and security protocols, and participating in team collaboration and training. Requires basic computer hardware knowledge and a technical qualification pursuit.

What you'd actually do

  1. Follow guidelines and work closely with experienced technicians to understand and comply with data center policies, procedures, and deadlines.
  2. Learn to read and understand Process Change Notifications (PCNs) and assess their impact on daily operations.
  3. Assist with preparing, installing, diagnosing, troubleshooting, replacing, and decommissioning network, storage, and server equipment with minimal business disruption.
  4. Complete assigned support tickets efficiently while developing familiarity with relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  5. Participate actively in daily safety briefings and comply with all safety and security protocols, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Skills

Required

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 18 years of age
  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware and components
  • Interest in supporting IT equipment or related technology
  • Studying towards a relevant technical qualification
  • South African citizen or residency and eligibility to work in South Africa
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements

Nice to have

  • Applicable certifications: CompTIA (A+, Server+, Network+), Basic Structure Cabling (BSC)
  • Ability to support frequent standing, walking, lifting, and working at heights with or without equipment assistance
  • Able to communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders
  • Proficient in written and oral English communication
  • Desire to learn, grow, and develop new technical skills
  • Flexibility to work non-standard business hours that may include weekends and/or holidays
